What makes a region or country overpopulated?

It is easy to say an area is overpopulated but do we always have the evidence to back up that claim?

What are three countries you think are overpopulated?
Why do you believe these countries are overpopulated?

Check this link  and see if any of your choices were included on the Overpopulation Index
DO NOT CHECK BEFORE YOU STATE YOUR CHOICES!

  1. To say a country is overpopulated, that to me says that the country has too many people and less resources available that can sustain the entire population. three countries i think is overpopulated is kenya, mayb due to their cultural practices and mentality, also China, because it's ranking number 1 in the world to having the larges population, and also, india, because of it's state of poverty. and alot of times it is seen that poor families have a lot of children, due to lack of education etc.

  2. i agree with trisha because, a country may be to a point where there is no longer enough sources to support the growing population and as a result the population cannot be sustained whether with food supplies or basic necessities eg clean drinking water or decent housing arrangements.
i think in the majority of cases we do have evidence to back up whether a place is over populated or not.
    china, usa(new york) and india
in china and india there is a high poverty rate and this can be as a result of the overpopulation.

It is inaccurate to equate existing and seemingly open or "unused" spaces with the ability of population expansion. In fact, the criterion for determining whether a region is overpopulated is not land area, but carrying capacity.

Carrying capacity refers to the number of individuals who can be supported in a given area within natural resource limits, and without degrading the natural social, cultural and economic environment for present and future generations.

The carrying capacity for any given area is not fixed. It can be altered by improved technology, but mostly it is changed for the worse by pressures which accompany a population increase. As the environment is degraded, carrying capacity actually shrinks, leaving the environment no longer able to support even the number of people who could formerly have lived in the area on a sustainable basis.

Bangladesh can also be added to the list of overpopulated nations
