i actually agree with that statement to a very large extent because, for example in Brazil, the urban areas, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero, are on the coastal areas of the country and is far away from the Amazon rain forest which is closer to the northern parts of the country. the urban areas were probably 1st developed in that area because of its location, being close to the coast can provide asthetic beauty, recreational activities, generally low lying areas suitable for construction of settlement and businesses and easy access to imports and exports. as a result of the physical factor influencing the location of the urban area, now human factors come into play where jobs are now set up and rural to urban migration may occur causing a large population density in the urban areas.
i also agree with yana on this, because, many buinesses etc are set up close to the coast, for eg right here in Trinidad aND, Port of spain, being the capital, is near to the coast, and it's a really built up/urban area. Also, factories and industries, would want the water supplies for cooling down the plants etc.. also, population distribution will be affected mostly by the physical factors, because if an area is inaccessible, then how can you build anything there. no home, no buisnesses etc. for example in jamaica, where there is limestone, the area are inaccessible, and there for you cant extract resources there, neither can u build and construct there. also areas where it's not mountaineous, and has flat land and are close to rivers, ppl locate their, because there is water supply, for domestic usage, and also for agricultural purposes. The only basic human factor that comes into play here is the fact that people locate, where jobs and employment are available. ppl living far off, wont want to commute everyday to work or people in Trinidad going to the university, would rather an apartment close to the area than to comute to school, and home everyday.
